Trent Bishop
Vice President of Sales

Trent Bishop is a 1994 graduate of Texas A&M University, where he earned a degree in Agricultural Economics with an emphasis on Agri-Business.  Although he did not grow up in an agricultural family, Trent decided after high school to pursue a career in agriculture because as he saw it, “everyone will always need fresh food to eat”.  So with that simple idea in his head, he set out on a career path that has now spanned 20 years.  Throughout his career, Trent has been very fortunate to work side by side with some of the most well-respected industry leaders in South Texas.  He credits these individuals with instilling in him a work ethic based on honesty, integrity and building long-lasting relationships.

Trent has been very fortunate to work side by side with some of the most well-respected industry leaders in South Texas.  He credits these individuals with instilling in him a work ethic based on honesty, integrity and building long-lasting relationships.

Trent is active in the daily sales of the company's citrus crop and believes in putting the customer first.  On his first day of work at Golden Valley Distributors in 1994, Stan Agar, a produce industry icon, told him,  “Trent, there are a lot of unsavory characters in this business that make a lot of money.  But I am going to show you that an honest man can do pretty good for himself as well”.  Those words, and that foundation of training, has set the tone for his career.

Trent went on to work for Stan for two years before transitioning to A. Duda & Sons – Valley Onions, where he was employed in the sales department for four years.  In 2000, Stan Agar sold Golden Valley Distributors to FoodSource, Inc  and Trent was asked to come back and manage the operation.  It was during this time that the company transitioned from a four person brokerage to the substantial tropical import operation that the FoodSource Texas location is today.  In 2006, Trent was approached by Jud Flowers to manage the sales department at what was then Healds Valley Farms, Inc.  After 13 years in the business, Trent branched off in 2007 with his business partners, T.J. and Jud Flowers to pursue a dream of building their own business.  And thus, Lone Star Citrus Growers was born.  Trent now serves as Vice-President of Sales where he is very active in the daily sales of the company’s citrus crop.

Trent is a very active participant  in produce industry.  He is a graduate of the United Fresh Produce Industry Leadership Program, and then went on to serve as a board member of the United Fresh Leadership Alumni Board.  Trent has served on the board of the Texas International Produce Association since 2003, and served as Chairman of that organization from 2010 – 2012.  He has also served on the board of TexaSweet Citrus Marketing since 2004.  Trent is currently the Chairman of the Shipper Division within the Texas International Produce Association.

Trent is married to his wife Veronica, and has three daughters – Hannah, Allyson and Marin.  When Trent and Veronica are not chasing the girls around the state supporting their club volleyball careers, they can be found lounging on the beaches of nearby South Padre Island, or fishing the shallow waters of the Lower Laguna Madre.

T.J. Flowers
Vice President of Operations

As a 2003 graduate of Texas A&M, T.J. Flowers has been in the produce business for over 10 years. During this time he has had the opportunity to work in nearly every area of the business including produce brokerage, import sales and domestic sales. Since joining forces with Jud Flowers and Trent Bishop to create Lone Star Citrus Growers in 2007, he has added operations management and production management to that list of experience.

T.J. learned early in his career that having a “customer centric” attitude on the sales desk boosts the quality and quantity of orders that come in.

T.J. learned early in his career that having a “customer centric” attitude on the sales desk boosts the quality and quantity of orders that come in. He applies this same outlook with Lone Star Citrus after his sales day is done and the production day kicks into high gear. That is why, during the season, you can find him at the office after-hours ensuring that all the hard work of the sales team is turned into reality through seamless production protocol. This type of oversight benefits the customer in that they get exactly what they want, when they want it, with minimal wait times…every time!

T.J. stays current in his industry knowledge and relations by networking through events such as the Texas Produce Convention and the Produce Marketing Association. He is also active within the local citrus community by sitting on the boards of Texas Citrus Mutual and the Texas Valley Citrus Committee.

Together with his wife of over 10 years, T.J. and April Flowers have two beautiful daughters – Lily and Maddie. T.J. and April enjoy travel and have made it a point to do it at every opportunity. Whether it is a concert/sports venue across state or historic landmark/museum across the ocean, these two want to see it all as part of their “work hard, play hard” philosophy.

Carol Sue “Susie” Marroquin was born in Washington State to Kenneth and Billie Vandever. Her family moved to the Texas Valley when she was five years old and she has lived there ever since. While attending college at Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas she worked part time at the local Hertz Rent a Car. There, she learned her way around the books, long before there was any Quickbooks!

In 1981 she started her career in the citrus industry as an assistant to the retiring accountant at Pride O’Texas. There she learned the power of the weather over the agricultural business as the team headed by Jud Flowers worked to survive the devastating freeze in December of 1983. She left Pride O’Texas in 1987 to work with Jud Flowers at another citrus operation - Healds Valley Farms.

There, she worked for twenty seasons making the transition from “books” to computers, where each citrus season was different and challenging and her love of accounting grew.
