Carol Sue “Susie” Marroquin was born in Washington State to Kenneth and Billie Vandever. Her family moved to the Texas Valley when she was five years old and she has lived there ever since. While attending college at Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas she worked part time at the local Hertz Rent a Car. There, she learned her way around the books, long before there was any Quickbooks!
In 1981 she started her career in the citrus industry as an assistant to the retiring accountant at Pride O’Texas. There she learned the power of the weather over the agricultural business as the team headed by Jud Flowers worked to survive the devastating freeze in December of 1983. She left Pride O’Texas in 1987 to work with Jud Flowers at another citrus operation – Healds Valley Farms.
There, she worked for twenty seasons making the transition from “books” to computers, where each citrus season was different and challenging and her love of accounting grew.
Susie and her husband, David Marroquin, married in January of 1984 and have enjoyed raising two beautiful daughters together. Her passion is her family, reading, gardening, and making their home a beautiful and comfortable haven.
